Resident Aliens - 1 Peter 2:11-12
Today I heard an awesome sermon about 1 Peter 2:11-12 (11Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. 12Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.)
What does a resident alien look like?We are all called to live as if we were resident aliens in this world. For although we live in the world we are to live as citizens of heaven. Our pastor preached on these two verses and the difficulty that arises when we attempt to live these verses out. So many of us look like the world, act like the world, talk like the world, and live lives that are hardly distinguishable from the world. However we are to live differently.
As a Christian I should ask myself hard questions like: If Christ is really Lord over my life then why do I not support more ministries? If my focus is on heaven and living as Jesus lived I should daily take up my cross (ie endure difficulty) and boldy pursue Christ with all of my life. Praise God for the message of 1 Peter 2:11-12. There is so much more to be said about these two verses but hopefully the majority of my talking will come in the form of life change and not necessarily in my typical way, using words.
More reflection questions: Is Jesus truly Lord over my wallet? What about my time? What if we compared the time we spend in front of the TV to the time we spend with Him?
