Expectations...

Expectations can be high. Sometimes they are too low. Sound familiar?

While completing our pre-field training (ie missionary bootcamp) at the Center for Intercultural Training (CIT), they challenged us to consider our expectations. Interesting. What do I expect of my family? What do I expect of my friends? What about churches?

Even more difficult question: What do they all expect of us? Oftentimes disagreements come up. Expectations are not established. We argue. We misunderstand. We fail one another. We fail ourselves.

We want to set realistic expectations. Not only for our ministry but also for our personal lives. We want to give ourselves time to really improve our Spanish. To learn a new Spanish accent. To take the time necessary to learn Uruguayan culture, worldview, interests, and heroes. It does take time.

We want to discuss expectations with family, friends, churches and others. Do you know why? We value you. Yep, you got it. We value you. If we understand the expectations (ie "the rules for playing the game"), we'll understand one another, we'll encourage one another, we'll be less frustrated with one another, we'll reduce surprises and show grace when surprises do occur.

What are your expectations of us? Share with us. Not only your expectations of what we'll do but of how you'd like us to serve you. To keep in touch. To call. To email. To skype.

Discussing expectations builds healthy relationships. Be on the lookout for future blog posts about what our expectations are for family, friends, and churches. Don't read "expectation" as "requirement." Read it more as a hope or desire.

We expect to let others down. Others will let us down. We hope to continue to build relationships in new ways. Distance may be a struggle. But relationships can and will evolve. I mean, after all...what did you expect? :)

CIT: We've Arrived

We've made it to CIT (Center for Intercultural Training). All our things are settled in an apartment on campus, where we will be doing pre-field training this summer. Here's a picture of the patio where four different apartments face. Our door is upstairs...the first one on your right.

There are several different missions organizations represented here and all different countries represented as well! It has been awesome to interact with them already, and we know that we are all going to learn alot from one another in the upcoming weeks.

Our first module is "Equipping for Cross-cultural Life and Ministry" which should be very practical and get us ready for what we should expect and plan on when we make the move.

I'm not going to lie, it's going to be nice to be in one location here in Union Mills, NC, for a bit...and have our own little place for a while; however, we are still working hard at getting our support in, so that we can reach 100% as soon as possible. (As soon as all our pledges/support is in and CIT is complete....we can leave for Uruguay and begin our ministry there.)

Keep checking in here for more posts about CIT and what we are learning!

Help Us Get to 70% Monthly by May

For those who have been following our support levels, we are excited to say that our moving costs for Uruguay have been reached! Our MONTHLY support is around 60% currently. We are getting closer to 100%!!!

We were informed this week that if our MONTHLY support reaches 70% in May, we will be able to register for the Center for Intercultural Training (CIT). CIT is a precursor to our final departure to the mission field. Why more training, you ask? CAM has all its missionaries go through CIT, in order to have some in-depth and focused training on culture shock, serving as a couple in missions, and adjusting to your new culture/city/language.

With this new goal, we would like you to help us get to 70% of our monthly support so that we can attend CIT very soon. Check out our Monthly Financial Partner page to learn more.
